When I purchased my 96 audi A4 Quattro I brought it to a mechanic to make sure it was a sound car since I purchased it from a used car guy. The mechanic said I needed rings around the trans and some other minor work like breaks and one front shock. Before I could get the car to the mechanic to do the minor work the car died and I had it towed to an audi dealer. The dealer informed me that it was a simple case of too much trans fluid. The first mechanic changed the trans rings and the other minor work but the car still does not seem to shift properly. I'm wondering if I bought a lemon, if I just brought the car to the wrong mechanics, or if there is something more about an audi trans that I need to know. Can someone please give me advice?

Thanks for responding. The car does not seem to go smoothly from gears. To me the engine revs and never down shifts unless I release the gas pedal. And sometime when I stop at a light the car goes way past 3000rpm before it starts to move at all (unless it slams into gear). I thought is was to be more gradual. What do you think?
