On an AWM, what is the little black box on top of the valve cover that has 1 brn wire to it?

On an AWM, what is the little black box on top of the valve cover that has 1 brn wire to it?
Mine is starting to wither away like the check valves, a bunch of pitting and the wire is corroding...

Yes, I am aware of that... The wire comes out of the coilpack harness and into this box...
I just want to know if it is a filter, amplifier or what... I am having some rough running issues along with low boost and misfires and everything checks fine... Plus, I want to fix this before it corrodes off completely...

Aftermarket add-on by PO?.....on my AWM the brown wires off the coilpack harness bolt directly to a threaded post on the VC.
No box.
