a super sharger can look like anything it wants. the difference isn't in the shape but in how it works. super are belt driven and force air in by belt. thing of it at an alternator forcing electrity in, it is belt driven right? Turbo are exhaust diven and need to wind up on there own. like a windmill. sorry if this is confusing

Default Centrifugal supercharger...

uses a compressor similar to that on a turbo, as opposed to the more familiar positive displacement or screw-type blower.

Default Well, they look like half a turbo if anything...

notice there is only an fresh air intake and outlet. On a turbo you would have another "snail" housing piggybacked to it with the exhaust side inlet and outlet. As Boosted mentioned...on a turbo the escaping exhaust gases turn a "fan wheel" in the exhaust side of the housing. That wheel is attached via a shaft to the "fan wheel" on the other side of the turbo, and that's how your intake air becomes pressurized.

Default They do exactly the same thing, except they are driven by a belt and gear set...

instead of a turbine and exhaust gasses.

On a turbo, the turbine is the 'hot' side, the air pump is the 'cold' side.

On a centrifugal supercharger, the gear case is the 'hot' side, air pump is the 'cold' side.
