Default cold air intake question.... what design is better?? (more

TDL racing's CAI -- Replacing the battery to the trunk and putting the intake behind the firewall.

Just Dave's CAI -- Building a firewall, intake tubing from the bumper.

Which one will produce colder air?
I am worried about hot air getting in. I had one on my old car and it sucked, of course there was no heat shield.

so what do you think is a better design? as far as hp and engine temps?

thanks

Default Tell me about it...

I have so much stuff to take pictures of and post it'll take me an entire weekend to do it. Probably won't get done until winter!

Default If you can request them both to hook up a vacuum gauge at the intake manifold

- tap from the hose going to the fuel pressure regulator and the rest of the vacuum valves doing other stuff.

Ask them to do a WOT climb in 3rd gear and see which one reads closest to '0' vacuum. Then you will find out which intake is better because of less restriction - or influenced by positive presure either from sucking air from the frontal area or the high presssure zone around the climate control opening area. BTW, running A/C full blast may lower the air pressure in that area

For air temps, grab a VAG, but my feeling is either way, you'll get pretty decent cold air (or close to outside air temps). The good part about TDL, is the intake tube is so short, it can't influence air temps much compared to the conventional plastic tube that sits over the exhaust - which of course can be rememdied

It can never hurt having more airflow in the engine bay.
