Coolant leak

Coolant leak
How big a deal is it to inspect the water pump for a coolant leak? I can see a bead of coolant running down the front of the engine block onto the top of the oil pan. I only see this after the engine has cooled down completely. I suspect it might be the pump gasket. Does this make sense? I'll probably go ahead and change the timing belt. Just to be sure, which pulley needs to be removed to get at the water pump?
Thanks,

How many miles? The water pump on the V6 is the weak point., they seem to last about 60K..
If you are no aure change it all including the thermostat. Use an Audi OEM thermostat.

Re: Coolant leak
You have to burrow fairly deeply to get to the water pump and timing belt. At least a day's work. My water pump just failed and gave the same leakage symptoms just before. It finally seized up which can be a major problem as the same belt that drives the pump also drives the cams! The following link is for a 1.8 but the disassembly is the same until you get to the mechanical part.

Blau has the tools and timing belt kit which includes everything you need for the belt and water pump change including replacement tensioner and idler rollers. Replace the serpentine belt at the same time.
