Is the crackling noise when pressing the accelerator PINGING???
#2
It's a hard sound to explain. Crackling is one way.
Ya see, a combustion engine is based on precision explosions. Not too soon and not too late. Now octane actually retards the explosion. The better timed the explosion the better efficiency you get from the cylinder. You want the explosion to wait until the cylinder is at the top of its stroke and compressed as far as it will go before the explosion occurs. Pinging is when the explosion occurs too early, a pre detonation. The early self igniting explosion is followed by the spark plug firing causing conflicting explosions. It basically sounds like tiny firecrackers.
