Default curb weight comparison --> 1998 Avant 2.8 30V vs. 2000 2.8 Sedan - How close are they?

From what is out there on the web I'm seeing that they are close to the same. Though I'm comparing different years they are equipped equally. Seeing they are within 30 lbs or so. Finding that hard to believe. Comparing quattro, manual 2000 A4 sedan vs. 1998.5 A4 Avant.

1998 A4 Avant: 3553lbs source Link: http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicles/new/reviews/1998/russ9824.html

2000 A4 Sedan: 3521 Source Link: http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicles/new/reviews/2000/gap9946.html

Anyone have this information? Trying to figure out what one would be lighter and therefore in theory better on gas based on weight alone all other things being equal. I know there is drag coefficient too but these cars don't see much speed on daily basis so this would not even come into play. My wife has to drive in town a bunch all day long most days and wondering if we are assuming too much by her driving the sedan. Has to make sense that the sedan is lighter enough to matter as far as mpg goes, right?

Default Shouldn't the 2000 be lighter?

Since Audi eliminated that heavy throttle cable?

Default Audi brochures show 3553# for '98.5 Avant 2.8Q w/Tip and

3384# for '00 2.8Q w/5MT. The brochure does not show a '98.5 Avant with 5MT but there's a 132# difference on the sedan so, if you have a 5MT Avant it should weigh about 3421#.

Default But added a electronic motor at the pedal and TB, plus added wires that travel

pedal-ecu-tb. 2000 also has a secondary air pump setup while the 98 doesn't.

Default Thanks all for the input

I wasn't sure what the differences actually were mechanically. If you open the hoods & look underneath they look almost identical at least to my laymens eyes. Just seems that stretch of the top that covers the backend & the hatch would weigh more?

So this is really nothing & I agree driving style would play a much bigger part given that they practically weigh the same.

Default didn't think to check the guide.

I knew the avant was about an inch shorter because the rear bumper doesn't over hang as much. Funny thing is I like how they put a 3rd headrest in the back on the Avant and it is no wider than the sedan. Didn't realize there was a whole gallon less tank capacity on the Avant though...
