Detailing the bottom skirts
I have a silver 1.8 and would like to paint the black skirt that runs along the bottom sides and front and back ends of the car.
My dealer says his service department can paint it to match the body colour. Would this be wise or are there detailing stores that specialize in doing this better?

Check out this month's MAX Speed Magazine.
Towards the end of the magazine, several pages form the back cover if I remember correctly, is a writeup on a '96 A4. It's metallic red, and the lower body panels have all been painted. It looks QUITE sharp, in my opinion!

Painting the door sweeps.
Yes this can be done, I had it done on my car. Go to a trusted body shop and have the estimate with parts R&I, labor and materials. Afterwards, be very careful of the points getting bent, paint will crack and peel even with flex agent. I haven't had any problem so far but S.O. and I are careful. The Audi techs worry me though, hopefully they will get better with a notice from AoA regarding the same issue on the S4. I would recommend that you do the front and rear also. I don't recommend this if you or any passenger (even kids in rear) are careless.
