Default Does your switchbade regularly fall off you key ring?

Mine has done this since I bought my 99.5 last year. In my 1 yr. service I told the dealer and they said this happens all the time. They explained to me, AOA has told the dealers to cut off the piece that holds the attaching ring on the key and drill a small hole to attach a new ring. I had one done and I don't like it. I will probably have the dealer replace the entire key.

Has anyone gotten the same story?

I just superglued the peg that holds the ring onto the body (after putting the ring back on with needle nosed pliers). I got a whole year and a half out of it before I had to do it again. I told the dealer and he agreed that that was a satisfactory solution, because as I well knew, I could break the bond if it had to be taken apart.

Default A cheap swivel ring from a kid's toy keychain works for me...

Every 6 months I've posted my fix to this problem, quoting from my March post:
"and that fix is still working
wonders for me. (This fix is for the switchblade key popping apart, and does absolutely
nothing to fix the first guys problem of keys-on-the-knees.) I just stole a swivel mount
from one of my kids toy keychains (a nervous hamster that kept falling over from the
extra weight anyway). The swivel is just two pieces shaped like letter 'D's back-to-back
with a post connecting them that allows one to turn relative to the other. It's about a
25 cent piece of work of metal. Works like a champ. Now I still have one big clunky set
of keys that whacks me on the knee - but by god it doesn't torque my switchblade key
apart anymore."

Default Here's what I do (more)

1. Keep the Audi key separate. This is a real good idea for several reasons. It keeps the weight off of the ignition lock and it keeps you from giving your house keys to the valet guys or your car keys to your neighbors.

2. I put mine on a leather Audi key fob. I simply tossed the tiny ring and threaded the fob key ring through that corner. Wasn't terribly easy but it only had to be done once.

I just got used to grabbing both sets of keys if I am taking the Audi and leaving the Audi key at home if I'm taking one of the other cars. Haven't forgotten yet.<p>Marty
