Electric fan help please.
I believe my original factory electric fan has failed. My EFK is running off of it's power and the EFK is working. I tested the EFK all by it's self and it's good. I tested the factory electric fan and it is dead.
How do I remove it? please tell me I dont have to pull the lock carrier.
Where can I get a good deal on the fan or is there a substitute?
TIA Guys.

you'll have to at least tip the lock carrier into the service position...
Cuz to get to the wires alone it makes life easier, let alone getting a tool in there. YOu also might have to pull or tip out the radiator as well, not sure 100% how it's fasten in there.

I didn't have to move the lock carrier to remove mine...
just pulled the top timing belt cover (the hose hooks interfered), then one screw and unclip the fan (by rotating it). The only tedious part was pulling the wiring (the plug is up next to the power steering fluid). I was also able to repair my fan, the rear bearing had dried out. I had to pull the back cover off the motor to clean up the bearing, but it wasn't to bad, just straighten the stakes and pop the cover off.

Yeah after I posted that I remembered there might be a screw.
They are expensive, so I definitely recommend looking around. I bought mine from a place called www.autodoctorparts .com but I'd check around at:
www.1stvwparts.com/ (VW dealer)
www.worldimpex.com/ (Audi dealer)
www.autohausaz.com/
As for the Part Number I'd suggest pulling it off of the fan. I called around to the local dealers and asked them. After calling 3 dealers I had 2 different part numbers. Of course I can't find the part number I used now.

THanks. I think the number changed with the 98.5 update. It seems silly that audi would need more
than one fan. Why not just put the same one on everything?
Anyway thanks.
Anyway thanks.

After removing the single screw at the top I rotated the frame of the fan counterclockwise
after that it fell right out. I did not remove the lock carrier. I did remove the air intake above the fan.
This was written on the fan:
FS1149 8D0959455CD82001GME2
863366J MADE IN FRANCE 265296
The 8D0 is the part number
The Made in france is the root of the problem.
