Manual pedals are now installed. I think it took me about two hours to go from 2 pedals to 3 pedals. I put fresh pedal covers on the pedals, which is easy on the brake pedal but the clutch pedal required a flat head screw driver and a hot air gun. The clutch pedal is not attached to a master cylinder right now, yet with the over-center spring is in place which will keep the pedal on the floor till I install the new clutch hydraulics. The pedal bracket can remain in place when changing out the brake pedal and adding the clutch pedal. There is a large pin on which both clutch and brake pedals hang. The pin is held in by a pair of clips and a single set screw (4mm). The brake pedal must be changed as the automatic pedal will conflict with the clutch pedal. The knee bolster required no modification beyond trimming of the fluffy insulation layer.

Default Very strange...

This is probably the only automatic A4 with 3 pedals.

I wanted to get the pedals in first, it was one of the grey areas I was hoping to overcome without too much fuss. Save for a single piece of plastic which the brake master cylinder uses to contact the brake pedal, all went pretty well. The clutch pedal insertion was kinda difficult as the pedal is oddly shaped and clearing the steering column took several attempts to figure out just what angle of approach was necessary for installation.

Default well hopefully this is the start of many conversions ;)

if you show it to be viable cost effective alternative to buying a new car (i.e. a tip owner loves his car but can't do any significant modifying because they fear blowing up the trans).

Good luck froggy! keep the progress reports coming

Default Little I do is "cost effective" for the normal individual. For you, or a few others it might be.

This project when complete will cost me just north of $2k for parts alone. I am primarily using used parts as the costs of new components are simply prohibitively expensive even for me.

Default As shocking as it may sound; I like the four spoke wheel.

Not the early thin as a rail four spoke, but the later one pictured. Back in my 944 days the four spoke wheel was the one to have... back then I had the four spoke wheel and liked it. I find the 3 spoke sport wheel is less comfortable than the late 4 spoke. I do prefer the 3 spoke for tracking as it has four swollen areas for hand placement.

Default Hey...

Yes I read your post about inspection, registration etc. I wish I had a solution for you, but I really don't know of anything I've not already suggested or you've already considered.
