Default Flashing Oil Light

Recently had the oil changed (not by the dealer)in 96'A4 Quattro & when I start the car on the tripometer read out, the word 'oil' flashes for 15 seconds. All is OK with the oil level. Is there a sensor that was not reset by the mechanic?
Thanks.
-JD

Yup...dealer forgot to reset the oil change reminder. You should be able to reset yourself, read the manual

Default Not in a '96

And chances are the place where you had the oil changed didn't have the proper equipment to reset it. I'm over 50K miles and plan to change my own oil now, so I've learned to live with the flashing OIL indicator. I figure next time I have to go to the dealer I'll get it reset. ANyone know if Jiffy Lube type places can reset it?
Kyle

Default I stand corrected....

I had brain fade when I posted my response...I totally missed that the person had a '96. Kyle, you're correct that the '96 year has to be reset by the dealer. Unfortunately for me, the '97 is the same as the '96. My understanding is that any shop with a VAG tool (VW Dealer, Audi Dealer, some independant garages) can reset these indicators. It can also be done with a laptop PC and the VAG Tool software (the exact name escapes me).
Andy Hedin
'97 A4 1.8Tqms
