Default German Oil Filter Study

I found this oil filter study while looking for something before. It's done by the same guy who did the oil filter study with like three dozen filter types. Anyway, he looks at basically all the filters he could find that fit many German cars (including ours).

Default Correct me if I'm wrong but

the filter I have has a B at the end, not A. If I remember correctly, they discontinued the A and replaced it with a lower backpressure more expensive B version, at least that's what the parts guy told me about a two years ago. The B version is the one with the 30,000km or 2 year stuff written on the side, the A did not have this.

Default The guys on the oil forum are currently running another oil filter study...

which actually measures the flow of each filter, not just cutting them up and looking what's inside like the other studies did.

They're nowhere near finished however, but some initial observations can be found in this thread:

http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=000513</a

True or false: Flow is directly inversely proportional to filtering capability.

The people with K&N filters should answer this.

Default one must find a middle ground betw. flow and filtering capability...

The higher the flow, the less filtering occurs - the oil just runs through the filter.

The lower the flow, the more filtering occurs.

However, you do not want to restrict the flow too much by filtering every little micron of dirt to the point where practically no oil gets through the filter.

Some filters have the by-pass valves that just let the oil through without filtering to help oil flow, especially when oil is cold.

At least that's my understanding.

point is, but proportional to Area no doubt.

True if you hold the filter size constant.
