GF calls and says that the oil minimum warning has come on (not oil light)
and I don't have the manual with me- it's in the car.
Is it safe to drive approximately 30+ miles until I can get more in?

That light is not a low oil level warning light. If it comes on, oil temp or pressure are unacceptable. Tell her to add a quart of oil, if it's low, before starting that motor again. She can check in the manual (which is in the car!) which oil she should get. If the oil level is fine, something else is wrong.

thanks for the help, she's going to be picking up some oil later tonight
hey, I used to live in Japan- where are you headed? I'm more than happy to impart the little knowledge that I have about the place.

I know the light, it is a low level light.
It means your oil has dropped to just below the safe zone. I stopped at the next gas station and got a quart. It only needed half a quart. I don't see waiting a little while a problem. I couldn't believe it either, I never ran low on oil before.
