Default Good morning! GIAC Tiptronic chip question...

I am happy for now with the 170 hp of my 2001 1.8TQTS (I think I will eventually chip it, but later). One thing that I don't like is the lag in the Tiptronic. At full throttle, it is SOOOO SLOOOW!!!

I am looking at the Tip chip from GIAC. At 250$, it's cheap, comes in a separate ECU and should correct the problem.

Any comments? Is it easy to install/remove (when I go to the dealer)? Is it better than the stock chip?

Thanks a lot!

Default Great mod...

However, for the purchase price of $250, you would have to send in your ECU for the chip install.<ul><li><a href="http://www.awe-tuning.com/products/audi/audiparts.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=1&PEI=2&PP=a4_18t_chips. cfm&PPT=Chips">GIAC chip from A.W.E.</a></li></ul>

Default I thought that it was in a separate ECU??

On the GIAC web site, they say "PRICE: 1 bar chips $400 ($500 for non-US/Canada) Transmission chip- $250 (in a separate ECU). Matched Tip to motor programming. Complete programmed ECUs from AWE."

Does this mean that they send you an new ECU, or that it's in a separate ECU from the other chip??

Meaning the chip is used in a different ECU in a separate location than that of the engine chip.

tip chip changes shifting times, but won't affect the speed at a certain gear
