Don't you think that with a 50/50 weight distribution and Quattro AWD, the Audi would be the best handling car in the world?

I think its because the A4 is based on a front wheel drive car. That is why more weight is up front. However, Audi should be able to get closer to 50/50 because the engine is north/south and with quattro there is more weight in the rear for the rear drive components. As has been noted on this site before, the avant has even more wieght in the back. Does anyone know what the percentages are for a 1.8T quattro manual? Is it like 57%/43% weight distribution?

But is is very difficult to have a front transaxle and a 50/50 weight ratio because the nature of the engine location will be very forward of the front axles, hence the weight. FrontTraks are even farther away from 50/50 but not by much compared to a 2.8 A4QMS. I think 65/35 for V6 front trak, 62/38 for V6 Quattro Manual. Tiptronic even better because it is heavier and adds weight behind front axles.
I remember Corey's ex 1.8TQM to be 58/42 so a much better setup for track use as you already have the horsepower upgrade availability and the car is lighter overall.

I think it's mainly because the engine is mounted in front of the front axle, not behind it.

Absolutely! Hard to make up for the weight of an entire engine.
