Default Help identifying engine noise

There is a low frequency moaning noise (like a bad muffler sound) coming from the front of the car at certain speeds.
Its there between 35 and 40, 50 and 55 and between
more loudly between 65 and 75. You cannot hear it at any other speeds. Also, it is not dependent on the gear or the RPM. And today I found out that
if you steer to the left, the noise goes away!
Could it be related to steering or alignment? I noticed that the driver side front tire and the inner edge of the passenger side front tire are worn out.
It is a 01 1.8 Quattro with Tiptronic.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
