Default hey guys, i am burning oil!

Hope everyone is doing well today.

On an 1100 mile trip, I have burned a little over 1/2 quart of oil.
Things you should know:
NO dripping under the car
mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 with MOBIL 1 (not oem) filter
there MAY be (it's hard to tell if it's dirt) slight black dust on lower rear valence and rear bumper
98.5 2.8 avant
it had burned 2 quarts of oil in the 1100 miles since last oil change of city/country driving, little highway. I know that doesn't make sense given my last trip and how much it burned...but it's true. those numbers are correct.

first places I should be looking?
thank you

Cam seals, VC gaskets are easy to check. Look at the plugs to see if it's burning it.

Default thanks for the replies. just about to hit 150k. if you could provide a LITTLE more

information on how to check those, that would help. mechanically inclined? slightly. but new to the audi thing.
thanks.

Default look for oil smear/drips/stains on or near the valve covers, camshafts

prolly look like tar or gooey from heat.

Default thanks for those, however you need to remember that there is no drips or leaking at all on the g

ground. i think that if those things were true, the oil would make it's way below the car. however, i did look around my camshaft housings and valve covers, nothing to speak of at all. i know it's coming out the exhaust, so i'm guessing the seal around the piston is just not perfect and thus letting oil out and into the exhaust system. meaning there is pretty much no repair without tearing my engine apart to the pistons. so am i just putting a quart in every 1000 miles, that means?

keep thinking please.... this is killing me.

thanks for help so far.
