Default hot weather & recirc switch

Manual seems to recommend never using the recirc switch for prolonged periods of time, but its been 100+ in nothern florida and I can't keep car cool without using the recirc switch. What are the rest of you doing in hot weather?

Default Do they give a reason why not to used Recirc for long periods?

Probably be because they don't want to be sued of you've got carbon monoxide recircing. It doesn't seem like it would work the AC harder -- should actually be easier on AC to recirc already cooled air.
DJ

Default They claim CO2 levels will rise in the cabin.

Default I dunno, I like it.

I've noticed that's a flaw in German cars. They have weak air conditioners. But I'm a desert born sun worshopper so on hot days I look for a big flat rock to lay on.
Bobby Kinstle

Yep it's a CO and CO2 issue. It's sort of like flying - they don't recirculate much air on planes.

Default Re: hot weather & recirc switch

I live in Northern Florida too (Jacksonville). I have found in my '00 A4 that if you take the AC off of Auto, leave it on just the front vents, crank up the fan, and then turn the temp down to ~65 degrees it does OK. After about 5 minutes the cabin is nice and cool. I actually have passengers say it is too cool. My wife is a habitual recir. user, but it only stays on for 20 minutes then it turns itself off. Hope this helps.
