How long can synthetic oil last?
I recently was told that synthetic oil can last up to three times as long (9000 miles)as regular oil(3000 miles. I am about to change the oil and would like to know if synthetic oil is worth the extra buck. What other avantages does synthetic oil have? Thanks

Theoretically speaking...
Synthetic oil viscosity does not break down like standard motor oil because its base is much more stable and much more resistant to heat and friction. There are many advantages including:
1) Longer drain intervals
2) Lower engine temperatures and marginally better fuel mileage due to less friction
3) Better protection in heat/cold and at high revs
Oil also has another function - to rid the engine of harmful deposits. When you change you oil you are getting rid of these deposits. No matter what kind of oil you have it still gets contaminated with deposits so I would still stick to the 5,000 mile change intervals for long engine life.
