How much will it cost to replace my fuel pump?

My car dies after when reving up to 4k rpms. I think it's the fuel pump since I have a GIAC chip more fuel is demanded with it. What should be the cost to replace my fuel pump? 2001 a4 quattro.

My mechanic took a look at it and said my car wasn't throwing any codes. That's why he couldn't give me a definite answer if my fuel pump was bad. He also said there is no codes for a faulty fuel pump, but I'm not sure if that's true.
