Idle problem/Creak solution?
Two questions regarding A4 2.8 ('96)
1) Recently have been having an intermittent idle problem, where RPM's quickly drop and *almost* stall, but not quite. Hot/cold doesn't seem a variable, and very intermittent. Any ideas?
2) Some time ago in the archives I came across one solution for front end creak/groan - tightening bolts on a steel plate which seems to connect the subframe to suspension components. I checked, and of the 3 bolts on this plate, one (the largest) was clearly loose. Tightening it *did* seem to quiet the creaking. Anyone happen to know the torque specs for these bolts, or have any thoughts on possible danger of over tightening them?

My car went in for it's 20K service and the same problem (#1) you are having. I have had this happen at least 2-4 times now and the last time it was so bad the check engine light came on. I'll let you know what they find.
