I'm planning to swap out the bulb in my autometer boost gauge and use an LED instead, will it work?

Default I'm planning to swap out the bulb in my autometer boost gauge and use an LED instead, will it work?

I know LEDs tend to light up in a point so the light may not be able to disperse to the edges of the gauge. But I found a pair on ebay that I think might work, check out the link. What do you guys think? Or would one of those with a 4 LED cluster work better? TIA!!

LED bulbs

Default i don't think it would disperse correctly neither. i've been using a hyper-white bulb.

aka ricer bulb. works fine, much brighter

Default Those work.

The inverted cone shape offers about a 120° spread of light. They work pretty well as I have a bunch. I wouldn't pay the $14 for them though.
I've got some, if you want to email me.
Or check with newsouthperformance.com $4 from them.

Default I did it on mine (more)

I installed two super bright red leds in my boost gauge. Nice and even illumination. Perfect match with the dash. Looks great. Sorry no pics now. They are just led so they are not plug and play but easy enough just add a resistor. I drilled two holes in the back of the gauge so I was able to place the light where I wanted it.

BTW don't spend that kind of money on LEDS buy the super bright one from Digikey.com. I used super bright 8500 mcd. These are 50ma so you use smaller resistor around 200 ohms. You can wire them like this:

http://www.allelectronics.com/spec/LED_Hook_Up_Guide.pdf</a
