Just got the Yakima Rack! Any installation tips would be appreciated.
I'm real excited about my new rack! I just received the rack and want to install it soon. I got it from Ageebike.com; highly recommend them...nice service and a great price (disclaimer: I don't work for Ageebike.com and wouldn't see a dime if everybody and their brother got Yak Racks from them.)
Is there anything I should know before the install. Any tips you all may have would be appreciated. I'm a little worried about dirt getting under the footings but I've heard that a clay bar and wax would do the trick to remove the dirt.
Thanks.

Be very careful about getting grit under the pads...
I had a Yak rack on my car for about 2 weeks and when I removed it I could see a very very faint outline of the pads on my roof, apparently caused by grit getting under the pads that just gradually grind the stuff into your clearcoat/paint.
You might want to try getting some clear static self-stick vinyl underneatch the pads, you know the clear stuff they make removeable window decals with. If you trim a piece that's just a hair larger than the pads, you shouldn't have a problem with grit...
Good luck,

Phil's right...
I would go further and get the 3m tape and leave it on permanently. With the 3m I would just make a fairly big pad so that the person on the other side won't scuff it by accident. I use the 3m at the foot, the factory black tape at the hook and the 3m for the foot of the spoiler.
Yak is the only way to go.

Try Griot's Garage...
...they have strips of the stuff that you can use for this and to protect areas such as your door sills from scuffs. They show it in their paper catalog...not sure if it's on the webiste or not.

Thanks Andy!
Their website doesn't have it so I called their 1-800 # and they do carry the clear vinyl. They sell it by the foot...2" wide = $2.50/foot; 4" wide = $3.50/foot.
