Just read the new A4 Review in Car and Driver.....more
Some observations, the author talks about both the good and the bad in the new A4. Many of the derogitory coments were that it looks too much like an A6. I agree in some respects, but there are telltale signs such as the new dual exhuast and the lights in the back are different. Overall it was informative. From what I understand the new A4's will be ariving in Ocotber, can anyone confirm this?
There was also an article comparing the Audi A4, Subaru Impreza WRX and the BMW 330ix. The Audi won, of course. One thing I learned was the 330ix has 4 wheel drive, different from the 330i, only 2 wheel drive, back wheel. Also the magazine reviews the Pasat, which has a V-8 and 4 motion. I have heard different things about this, but is there a difference between 4 motion, quattro and the BMW's 4 wheel drive on the ix?
Also to note, does the new S4 come out in 2 years? That means they will still be making the current model until then right?

BMW 4-drive is dervived from X5 which was "bought" from Rover.
When wheel slip is detected from the ABS sensors, the brakes are pulsed on that wheel alone. this forces transfer of torque to the other wheels with grip. If you do this on a track, the brakes will over heat.
I like quattro IVs system of torsen center diff. and EDL (sp?) for the side to side distribution.
quattro is fully mechanical.
