Default ...

Sorry Rod, but I don't think tuning should be a one size fits all kind of purchase. I never said a tune can't be worth worth $1500 or $2500 or more, but I'm more interested in what sort of actual effort one is getting from said tune. Tuning IMO is not a flat rate service... would you enjoy a tennis lesson if you paid for 1 hour but got 35 mins? I doubt it... this isn't a repair based on book time. If I chaperone my car to the dyno and bring in a tuner I know I'm paying for both houly. I know what I'm getting... it is there for me to actively take part in. Perhaps I'm a bit too hands on for some, but thats just how I am. I'm sure I'll spend a couple of gran over time on tuning my car, but as you know I run stand alone so I don't need a motronic specialist to alter a map... I can make changes on my own with direction from a tuner elsewhere.

I remember Dion from his service writing days at DCH. I can't remember if he was a Mazda or VW
writer but I remember him being there in the service dept. I have a hard time accepting claimed discounts from service writers... or former service writers... He's been in the game... I'm no fool, I know the service game too. IMO It would be foolish to make such an offer unless the pressure was on to pay for the dyno ASAP or if there were solid base maps to tune from which would reduce the overall time required to achieve a satisfactory tune.

Default Attempt to make net 60 on the Maha is how it would seem.....

I guess net 60 seems logical for a price tag that high. Dan takes a weekend course in tuning and suddeny KMD went from installer to tuner, hmmm.

Default Hater...

Yeah and people go to one day Microsoft seminars and become certified too. What's your damn point? Danny knows his ****.. spends time sharing info with KNOWN TUNERS and gets help and support from some of the best in the business. Most people in this business started somewhere... AWE was a VW installer/mechanic and ASP also started out as mostly a installer and parts manufacturer.

Everybody starts somewhere.. but I guess they should all be born with this knowledge.... Damn your starting to sound like a hater... no matter what I guess they don't deserve to be called a "tuner" by you? Nor should they Tune cars?

KMD does good work. Has developed cars with PROVEN performance gains and still you question his knowledge? To top that off he has one of the best tuners supporting his shop. Hans Dahlback is a personal friend of Danny's and one of the most knowledgeable guys on the scene.. but then I guess that's not good enough for you either....

Default i dont think...

me being a former service writer has anything to do with this. i also dont know if you are trying to take a stab at me or not but yes i have been in this business for 12 years at many different levels and i know if something is 2,500 and is to high for that maybe we should do 1,500. is that a scumbag dealer move? im trying to be resonable!!! while the dyno is new and yes we bought it so we can continue to expand in the business. the only reason i made the offer is to get the name out there and try to offer a discount since we have not been known for dyno tuning. if you guys dont like the offer then there is no need to take me up on it. i was just trying to give some people a deal. i have personally called several dyno shops in the country and find the price to be $2-$2,500 so i guess im wrong with the calls i made? the shops told me i didnt make the numbers up im not trying to take advantage of anyone. i am always told we are not on here enough and we are to expensive so im working with you guys but i guess its not the price you guys wanted. i will continue to try to help and provide offers. Thanks to all

Default REALIST!................

Yup I remember Todds shop actually, but TODD unlike Danny doesn't do custom ECU tuning or has not tried to get into it. Don't even try and compare KMD with AWE. They are nothing remotley close in any way shape or form, other than they both may have leather sofas in their waiting lounges.

"Everybody starts somewhere" indeed buy a few B5's, put BT's on them, get familar, get it dialed, proove it on the TRACK not the DYNO and then make this offer. DO NOT GUINNY PIG for this price!!!!!!!

"KMD does good work. Has developed cars with PROVEN performance gains and still you question his knowledge?"
Everyone thought the same of EIP, get the point yet.

Default lol, dude seriously? Todd isn't involved in tuning?

Todd, Jeff, and Garrett were all heavily involved in the lastest software for the AWE/GIAC stage 3 kit for the S4.

Didn't look like guy was trying to compare AWE to KMD. Just stating that all shops, including AWE, have to start somewhere.

This topic seems to get you a bit edgy, eh?

Default Did I say Todd didn't work with GIAC Brad? No I said Todd doesn't do custom ECU tuning!.....

You're equating develope ment of a chip tune program with full custom tuning on a DYNO of the ME-7?

Indeed all shops do start somewhere and usually shops such as AWE do a **** load of R&D sometimes for the better part of 2 years to release a kit and programming.

On edge? No, just not jumping on the opportunity to blow my motor on someones first attempt at CUSTOM DYNO TUNING and trying to help others not do the same or getting proof of capability from KMD that they are indeed qualifed and can show some numbers, pictures, video's and have some of the cars they've done so far come forth with something other than my ca put down more than the 434 it did at EPL.

Default No, but you didn't say that Todd did work with GIAC.

: P

Your right. Just seemed like you were taking away his knowledge with Motronic tuning. From his involvment with GIAC. I'm sure he'd do just fine custom tuning.

Might just be me or the fact that it is basically impossible to communicate expression and tone on the intraweb.

None the less, grab a beer and enjoy the rest of the day Ian : )

Default ....

From the get-go your post bothered me, I like to see more in a plug for an expensive service than a few paltry sentences of text. I'm not saying you guys can't tune a car properly, but your post left all sorts of speculative windows open.

I know you could have put a bit more effort into that post. Is that really all you have to say about your tuning facilities or tuner's abilities? Is that your sales pitch for a $1000 discount? I'm sure you've had to work harder to get a tech an extra hour for diag, no? I know, I'm totally a mal-content customer of sorts.

I personally think the offer could be stronger and more flexible, I think you could make it more provocative than 'we tune your car for $1500 up front'. Even if you are leaving it as it stands your post is not what I'd call an appropriate representation of such a costly service regardless of how fair the pricing may or may not be.

Lastly, you're certainly not reflecting your experience with that post, I've seen better descriptions on Craigslist. You can do better. You are aware of the grammatical errors and such in your post, right? Is that the same level of professionalism you display when tuning an engine?
