the $5 bottle of quick detail. I just figure it might wash the contaminates away easier. Thoughts?

dunno really... I consider clay dangerous and never use it....
I do know that the key to clay is lots of fluid lubricant (water? rain?) and a dirt and debris free surface.
It is an aggressive approach to car maintenance IMO. Good results if done right but there are other alternatives to removing tree sap and such like 3M's multitude of products.

Clay when it's humid out.
By the time the rain hit's your car it'll be too 'dirty'. Use the humidity to your advantage and at least half of the bottle of moisturiser. It's gonna be messy but the paint will be sooo smooth. Ihg then wax after that.

It should be OK. But remember to wash car first!
I've used the clay bar several times and it does work nicely. You can definitely feel the difference by simply rubbing your hand over the surface. Mothers recommends you use the spray fluid they supply with it, but I found spraying just water works fine. You just need a slippery surface so the clay glides easily and doesn't stick to the surface.
But please remember to only use the clay bar on a freshly washed car.
