Default Measuring oil level

What is the recommended procedure for measuring the oil level on a 1.8T A4? Let the engine sit for a while or right after turning it off?

Default no matter what I do...

I can't see **** on my 1.8T oil dipstick. I think the damn synthetic oil is so slick and clear that it's just hard to see (either that or I'm blind).

I think you're supposed to wait like 5 minutes after you turn off the engine to let the oil flow back to the oil pan.

Default On my 2.8, I check at all fillups.

Usually start filling up, then clean windshield (if needed) and then check oil. Most of it is usually in the pan at that point. What little isn't is negligible

Default What I do is...

...check it first thing in the morning before starting the motor. Then you see a distinct level without all the "noise". Naturally you need to be parked on a level.

Yes, oil does expand when hot too, but not really by much. Just make sure you are not over the top line when cold.

Per Bentley, let engine sit a few minutes after turning it off to allow oil to return to the pan,
