Driving 01 1.8T Q and looking to add chip and exhaust. As you can all imagine, there are tons of "facts" being floated around.

One I keep hearing is that the reliability of the MTM chip is unbeatable as is the sound of their exhaust and that they combine for a superior performance upgrade. As you all know, MTM is also wildly more expensive than Neuspeed,and others, and one of the User Reviews talks about engine surging problems with an MTM chip.

I'd really welcome hearing opinions on this issue as I am ready to go forward!

I've got stage one. Love it. No problems whatsoever. As you said though, pricey.

I had something similar to that...it was a failing bypass valve. It seemed to be causing the ECU to mal-adapt over a period of 2-3 weeks after a throttle adaptation. I would describe the problem as non-linear power delivery, most notable in 1st and 2nd gear.

Aside from that, APR, MTM, and GIAC are most talked about here (well, not so much MTM). Mainly because customer service rates so well, and in GIAC's case, a larger dealer network (meaning, you might be able to find a tuner near you who carries it...that's a bonus if you should have problems down the line).
