Default Is my 2001 configuration Crazy

This car was such a stretch for me I had to make some concessions. I ordered my 2001 A4 without quattro. I reasoned I am on dry pavement most of the time and in reality drive normal most of the time. I have also seen in the forum the Bose was a waste of money which I also oredered. I really enjoy a good stereo on a long trip. My configuration is as follow:

Ebony Pearl
Leatherette/Ecru/Clay........(What does everyone think of this interior with the black exterior?)
Convenience Package
Sport Package
Bose
Tiptronic

Good decision. I have the Ebony Pearl and Black Leatherette Interior. It is BEAUTIFUL! The black on black all around is amazing, especially the subtle yet elegant contrast of the slight "chrome metallic" hue of the Ebony Pearl as compared to the Brilliant Black. I would keep the Bose but get rid of the Tiptronic you will be much happier off in the end, especially just plain fun driveability of the manual transmission as well as performance wise. It depends on the climate as to whether the Quattro is necessary. I personally prefer Quattro to frontwheel drive. I would also consider the cold-weather package as in the winter on cold mornings it is amazing to plunk down on a nice warm seat. It also feels great on the back. Just my 2 cents though. Have fun, and you'll enjoy the car the matter what.

I had just order a Silver with Onyx leatherette but the Ebony Pearl exterior came in close second. IMO, the Ecru/Onyx looks better. There's more contrast.

I also agonized over the Bose upgrade. At the end I had decided to go with stock and put in an aftermarket if needed.

I also would skip the Tip and get Quattro. It'll probably help with resale value and you'll get more enjoyment out of driving the manual.

Default I would go with your setup if I was in your position...

I just got my car a few days ago and I got all the you plus xenon, quattro and manual. The BOSE is decent...not greatest but it'll keep me happy for a while. It is decent, if you plan to modify your stereo then forget about it otherwise stick with the BOSE. Quattro is great, I live in los angeles so its dry here to but I plan to modify so quattro is a must. If you get the tip and drive fairly conservatively except for spirited driving once in a while go for the FWD. It's 200 lbs lighter...help in acceleration. I found the stock seats quite supportive, plus the leatherette looks and feels like leather...just missing that smell. Xenon is a luxury, nice to have but the projectors are great.

Caution...there are rumors that you might have trouble chipping your 2001 model...Audi is supposedly catching on to the chip phenonmenon. No one knows but be aware. The car is also ultra low emissions vehicle so smog tests are very strict now.

good luck

Scott

I decided to go with the quattro after test driving both front track and quattro. Even in dry climates (I live in SoCal), you can tell the difference. I would imagine that the front track might understeer as much as or worse than my '95 Integra. There's nothing like stomping on the gas pedal to correct understeering or oversteering. Personally, I would forgo the Bose (which I have and am not thoroughly impressed with) and the tiptronic and go for the quattro. The sports and convenience packages are definitely worth the money...

Default Re: What about ESP on dry pavement?

I'm debating this option... I like the safety aspect, but am not sure if it'd be worth the investment.

You're on the west coast, no? I'm in the Northeast and my dealer says it might be an overkill with quattro. IMO, it might not be a bad option to have if you're an aggressive driver.
