Default Is my turbo going bad?

My turbo makes really bad sound when car is not warm enough.
It sounds like "shi-shi-shi-shi-shi"..it is not smooth...it happends when car puts slight boost..
This noise is getting louder everyday.
I have to drive least 20+min to fully warm up my car to make this noise go away

Although..as soon as it gets all warm up,turbo sounds just fine.("sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~")

my car hs 65k miles..and car has been chipped since 5k. Car runs just fine..turbo makes proper boost..it is just the noise..

Does slight leaky flex joint can create this kind of noise? or it my turbo going bad?

Default after all the stories lately, I think I'll do it now

at 30k -- hehe

my take on your situation is that, whatever the problem is, will eventually let it self be known.. it'll cost you then, but theres prolly not much you can do about it, (if its the turbo)

Default I wouldn't suspect your turbo to be goin bad, but...

That is how long I gotta drive for to get the oil and the engine warmed up.. With the KO3 I even had to do that...

Did my '00 A4 because I could hear it chattering. The tensioner was shot.

Default I'd check (see my story inside)

I had a very similar experience with my turbo last week. Until the car warmed up I would hear a strange sound when I would dump the throttle. I thought I had a leaky hose or bpv. Then I lost all boost. When I pulled the hoses out looking for the leak or split hose I wiggled the shaft on the turbo. Very wobbly. I pulled the turbo and the thing was completely toast.

The sound I was hearing was the compressor hitting the housing. I would check yours immediately - it will take you 15 minutes.

Default Re: thankx..but one more question..

If yours IS showing the same symptoms as mine I would find a replacement turbo ASAP (if checking the compressor shaft reveals alot of play). I would not recommend driving the car with a severely worn turbo - you don't want to injest the metal ground off of the compressor wheel and housing when they rub. Not to mention that the performance sucks.

Once you have replaced the turbo - change the oil.
