Default Need advice please...

I'm scheduled to get my car chipped tomorrow at AWE (giac chip) on my 99 1.8T FWD tip. I've got 67k miles on it. I've been researching and really want to do this. But for some reason my dad is like against it. He says he thinks its gonna hurt the engine and the car etc... So now i'm like having doubts, can people with not only this chip, but any, APR, MTM, etc. gimme their opinion

Default It's quite safe, especially from AWE. Excellent product, quality install, great customer support...

Hundreds have done it, very few problems.

And your car doesn't have that high mileage. It's just getting broken in =)

Default I would advise having them do the transmission chip as well, if possible.

I'm pretty sure it's available for your MY. GIAC is the only company that makes it -- it makes the transmission shift quicker, and from what we can tell, might actually increase the longevity of the transmission by letting it run cooler.

Just my $0.02.

Default if YOU have doubts...don't do it

Most people here have plenty of trouble free chipped miles. But I wouldn't do it unless you are going to enjoy it. What is the point of being nervous about your car and not pushing it when you have more hp nad torque. You need to accept the responsibility that something may go wrong, albeit unlikely, due to the chip. You must be willing to deal with the financial responsiblity too.

Would I reccomend chipping from my personal experience? yes...seems APR, GIAC, MTM, Neuspeed, Wett, and abt are all reputable and none seem to have more porblems than others.

Default if he's anything like other Greek dads....

he probably wants to keep the car in the family for the next 5 generations! That's why he's hesitant to let you fool with it.

I am also Greek and went through the same thing with my dad a few years back when modifying my Maxima. He didn't want to let me touch it. Once he drove it AFTER it was modified, he LOVED it!

Now, we both live hapily ever after in my 99.5 2.8 and his 01.5 1.8T. (both Santorin)

Happy Independance Day btw!
