Default Need help badly.. trying to install uuc short shifter kit..

So yeah I am going on 4 hours for the install, going back and forth to the store for tools. I got the old shifter out. Now the part I am having trouble with is. How do you put in the new shifter in. The uuc instructions say you can assemble the bottom piece to the shifter and slip it in. How? I've been trying. And I have tried slipping the screw from the bottom. Whoa that hurts my hands. Any help appreciated.

thanks, gjaime

Default Besides the instructions that come with, are there any really good FAQ's on the UUC install?

I will be doing mine in a few weeks.

Default So it ain't so!.. I just read on the 1999 instructions

It has a part that mentions the 2000 a4, part of the center console has to be removed. Well that would be a whole lots easier to get to that bottom bolt. Can anyone tell me otherwise. The instructions uuc gave me said something about a 90' degree angle. And being able to put the whole shifter back in. Man I guess I have to keep on trying. Back into the cold. It's my only car, I can't go no where

thanks gjaime

Default I did mine about 2 weeks ago .. and it was a general PITA !

that screw .. well u gotta use small hands and a good sense of stability to get it in the right place.
Just time dude .. time... or u can go out buy an extension for that wrench .. (I had a mechanic freind with tools) and use that :-)

Default There have been some really good write ups by some AudiWorlders...

On how to do the install. I know it is a PITA, but search the archives.

The key when I did it was to use the blank dowel to hold the two pieces together and slip it into place, then push out the blank dowel with the actual fastener nut and bolt and tighten that down (but not too much or the action will bind).

Good luck

Default I finally installed it..

I dreamt about it all night. and I got out to the car and BAM!. The screw just went in and I held the bolt with some long needle nose pliers and finger tighten then switched the the rachet. Done well worth the backache and headache.
