I have a 99.5 A4 1.8 turbo. About 7 years ago I installed inpro smoked tail lights. They looked good and everything was fine for the last 7 years. Recently I lost a brake light and it turned out that the metal on the pin oxidized and rotted. I could not find a replacement bulb housing, so I bought new tail lights. I just installed them and there is an issue. Hopefully I can explain this clearly. When the lights are off the indicator inside the car says "Brake light" as if I have a bulb out. When I press on the brake this indicator shuts off and both brake lights work along with the third brake light. When I turn the headlamps on, all therr brake lights turn on and stay on. The rear driving lights do not turn on. The blinkers and reverse lights work properly, as do all the lights in the front and side blinkers. Any idea whats going on here? Any help would be appreciated.

Don't quote me but sounds like a short somewhere. Maybe check all the fuses, visible wires from the taillights back as far as you can trace them.

Maybe even a bulb elsewhere on the car needing changed; I have seen weird crap like that before.

Hope you get it figured out cuz that would drive me friggin crazy!
