Default Need opinions on compression and leak down test results on an '01 1.8T -->

Cylinder 1 -- 185 psi
Cylinder 2 -- 140 psi
Cylinder 3 -- 145 psi
Cylinder 4 -- 180 psi

Leak down test

Cylinder 1 -- 10% pressure loss
Cylinder 2 -- 17% pressure loss
Cylinder 3 -- 15% pressure loss
Cylinder 4 -- 10% pressure loss

Escaping air heard through dipstick...suspect piston rings.

No smoke from exhaust on hard acceleration or engine braking deceleration though.

Car has just over 100,000 miles and has GIAC chip. Looking at it as a possible daily beater around town to save wear and tear on the S4 (not to mention gas). Would like to have it last for a couple of years at least.

Should I be overly concerned? Not much familiarity with this engine, only have Bentley for my B6 S4.

Price is good but am I potentially looking at more trouble than it's worth?

TIA for the advice!

Default Does your bentley manual include AMB code 1.8T?

The AWM is nearly identical to the AMB.

Default 140 and 145 on 2 & 3 not so good. Your suspicions of rings is a good one IMO....

1 and 4 are seeing off the lot compression.

Default tip: don't buy a car w/ a bad motor.

there are plenty out there w/ good motors for short $.

Default On this engine, do you think the compression differential would remain somewhat stable?

Guess I'm trying to get a sense of how soon I would need to tackle it if I decide to go for it and buy the car...

Hard to tell. It could have just started or it could have been slowly wearing.

Thanks. Suspected as much. Wish there was some way to tell more definitively.
