No Muff too Tuff... (lots o' pix)
Spent the day yesterday playing hookey from work, just hanging out at the local muffler shop. Figured while I was there, might as well get a little work done to my car. What the hell, right? My buddy owns a Meineke (muffler shop), and I decided to pull the trigger and rip out the old Sandblaster.
Hmmm... which diameter pipe to use...two inches? naah...

Sculpture provided by Magnaflow:

Pieces include stainless hi-flow cat, stainless mufflers (two, straight thru design), and twin polished stainless rolled tips. All pieces are 3-inches in and out, as is the tubing (in case the first pic didn't give it away...).
Dave also found me a piece of 3inch stainless flex pipe...
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/27758/109-0932_img.jpg">
The stock cat was yanked, and custom downpipe fabbed, w/ 3-bolt flange directly to the turbo. All pieces were custom made, from 3-inch pipe, w/ turbo flange, and bosses for O2 sensors. New hi-flow cat was mounted downstream, under car, for better flow, and lower under-hood temps...

Impressions:
GREAT sound- aggressive, deep bass rumble at idle and pulling out, and very tight, strong sound at WOT. However, I'd turn the volume down a little if I could- it's a little too much when you want to be quiet. Its not ricey, and much deeper bass than the borla, but louder than borla, and w/ NO sandblaster. All pieces are straight-thru design, and maybe a baffled resonator would have quieted things up a bit.
It definitely pulls harder, especially in the upper rpms. The combination of the K04 and a full 3-inch exhaust makes this car very rev-happy! It does NOT want to be shifted at 6500 rpm- keeps pulling. But I think the whole powerband has shifted upward- my ***-dyno says I'm missing about 5 percent of the urgency I had around 3K rpm before. But it definitely pulls harder beyond 4K.
Summary: The car had ***** before, and while they didn't get BIGGER, they got HAIRIER. Now its almost a shame NOT to get the T28 kit. Donations, anyone??

That looks really nice (more)...
I've been kicking around using our local Meineke to do a DP, as well. Those bends look suspect, though, but, all in all, nice job. I'm sure you got the "back door galore" discount, but do you know what it'd cost to do what you did for the average Joe? Gimme more info. Thanx.

hmmm....
cost is tough to estimate. Yes, i got the "back door" special- we go back several years. It took him EIGHT hours to fab the entire system. He said he would not do it again for the price he charged me- too much time and not enough profit. It would probably cost around $500 in labor for someone off the street (total guess), and roughly 300 in parts for the cat, two muffs and tips. Hell, even for 850, its a better deal than any aftermarket kit i can think of (as long as you dont mind a little more sound). It wont hurt to make a few calls. And yes, the bends are not mandrel (VERY expensive) but at 3 inches, i can afford a few bends...
