O2 Sensor Replacement Questions
I'm getting ready to replace the two pre-cat sensors on my '96 A4 V6.
1) From experience, had anyone found it easier on a hot engine vs. cold? Many posters on saabnet.com (my other car) recommend doing this when the manifold is hot, which allegedly makes removal easier (like using a torch on frozen bolts?). Since the O2 sensors are so well hidden on the A4, I'm concerned about burning some part of my body, but plan to wear thick gloves!!!
2) Has anyone had a bad experience using a Bosch generic sensor and splicing it to the Audi connector? A mechanic friend strongly advises using only the OEM sensor, claiming shorter life for the generic, but had nothing to back up his story.
3) Does anyone know the Bosch part number (or car info) for a cheap compatible 3-wire sensor? I have to believe that I can get one for less than $80.
