odor

<br>i have a 98 a4 with leatherette seats. in hot weather it develops an odor, which seems to be getting worse and, in part, comes out of ac vents but also builds up when sitting for a long time. any ideas would be greatly appreciated as it was quite difficult to breath today. thanx

I have a similiar car but '97. I don't have any odors on hot days.. Ever spill anything in the car? Are you in a high humidity area, some kind of mold growth in car or ventilation system maybe? Sounds horrible but could something of got into the ventilation system and died? (extreme case) <p>Are you sure the odor is in the seats? Might be a defect from factory, possible bad padding material.. It's under warranty complain...

Can you describe the smell?

Is it like a chemical/vinyl smell, or more like rotting sweat socks? <p>Something else? The more detail you can provide the better.<p>Paul

seems like a combination of vinegar and dirty socks or sulfur. by the way, it is a 2.8 engine, i use hitest containing pollution reducing oxygenation .
