Default Oil Filter Sizes and fill capacities for the noobs

<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/Ertman/DSC00143.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

Just got finished with an oil change and noticed that I had three different sizes of oil filters for the 1.8T sitting in the garage.

The filter on the left is the "OEM" filter that NAPA shows for the 1.8T, oil fill is ~3.7 qts.

The filter in the middle is the "upgraded" filter that most of us are probably using. Oil fill is 4.25 qts.

The filter on the right is the Wix 51333/ Napa Gold 1333, AKA "The Big Kahuna". The oil fill is 4.5 qts.

Do yourself a favor and use the bigger filters. I have noticed lower oil temps since I have been using the 1333.

If you decide to use the 1333, order it by number. The cross references do not show it as applicable for our cars. (something about fitting big diesel tractors and an old school Volvo)

Right is what Audi will sell ya, Left is the purelator...big boy MANN filter. It takes a whole Qt plus to pre-fill it. When i used this i went with 5qts. Some will say too much. I'll say when engine is running, about 2 1/2 qts sit in the oil pan.....Its safe!!!
