Oil Leak: Cam shaft Tension Chain Seals

Oil Leak: Cam shaft Tension Chain Seals
I have an A4 1999 with 40000 miles and just had a service where they found an oil leak in the cam shaft tension chain seals. The explanation is that the chain is under constant pressure and wears out the gasket seal. After about $750.00 in repairs (post warranty), I am a bit concerned. It seems early to have this type of wear. I noticed quite a few posts with similar problems, some caught earlier. And the dealer told me someone else had the same problem today, with even less mileage. The service rep said now they have made strides in getting better materials, so this won't wear out so quickly. The only prevention is frequent oil changes with good oil (perhaps). But, as I did the schedules maintenance at the dealer...
But, is this a defect or just working out the bugs in the engine?

Re: My '98.5 had the same leak after 60K miles. Didn't cost $750 to fix tho.. (around $350)
Big difference in cost. The bulk of the cost was labor; the parts were maybe 5-60.The dealer claimed it was an 8 hour job according to the service manual. How many hours was yours?
