camshaft adjuster seal leaking oil what kind of problems can this cause?

i had my cam belt tensioner replaced as well as all seals from factory... car had less than 15k on it. 01.5, common issue for the 01's

I have a 99.5 1.8T and had to have my camshaft adjuster seal replaced. The dealer told me that primarily it would cause loss of oil, which if not watched can seize your engine/turbo, and potentially allow particulates into the valve area. Which in turn might get into the combustion chamber and do damage. But I have been mislead by this dealer before so take it as you may......
