Default Ok, need some help installing new HU - (more)

Just got a Clarion for Christmas and am having a hard time w/ the installation. I see the diagram on the top of the stock HU (Delta), but am not 100% that I'm going to wire it correctly. Can someone please let me know if I'm about to do this correctly? Here's the universal cound system interface (PAC OEM-2) part that came w/ the HU.

I had no problem connecting the HU to the interface module, but am not sure where to go from here. Here's a pic of the wiring diagram for the Delta unit:

Basically I need to know where to connect RR and LR (rear speakers)? I see the line out connection for that but wasn't sure if it was correct. If anyone can give me some info. that'd be great. Thanks and Happy Holidays to everyone.

Default correct me if I an wrong, but...

aren't the rear speakers amplified in the rear deck? if so, than your RR and RL outputs from your headunit will be RCAs.

If that is true, than your headunit it basically outputting FR and FL as amplified lines (requiring a line level thing to get them to RCAs (which your PAC box is likely doing, not sure though)... but your rear RL and RR are already coming out as RCAs.

Are you just replacing the delta with a new headunit ONLY? I guess I am asking if you have any other aftermarket amps or anything.

If not, and the factory wires that lead to the rear deck are RCAs, you should be able to plug them in and go.

Default well, I think I just ruined the HU...

I am pissed now...First off, the wiring diagram on the stock HU sucks:

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/35440/dscf0003.jpg">

I am not a electronics expert and have no idea what half the symbols stand for. I think I connected up the wrong wires somehow because I heard a short sizzle sound in the new HU, and now the security light that was previously on won't come on. Am I screwed? I am so lost trying to figure out which wires goes with what. Any info. would help. BTW, I think you're right, but there are no RCA cables within the car's wiring (just on the HU and PAC box)...Let me know if pictures would help, I can post whatever is needed. Thanks for the help. phil

Default Check the fuses

Check for fuses on the new headunit. That should of been the sizzle-pop sound. If it didn't blow there, check in the fuse panel located on the driver's side. It is a pannel that is hiden by the driver's door when closed. It just pops off. Give it a stiff yank, it will pop off. Your users manual will tell you what number fuse is what and there is a diag on the inside of that fuse pannel that pops off. As for the wiring diag, search in the audio form, there are lots of peeps that have already done a similar install.
Good Luck!

All fuses are ok...too bad they don't label the fuses, so I checked all 20 amp ones...

Default Damn...

That really stinks. If it were me, I'd box up the new HU and exchange it.

Meanwhile, if I you can get a better shot of the Delta's diagram, I can decipher it for you.

Default I know you don't want to hear this, but you are MUCH better off saving for new speakers

and maybe an amp. The OEM "headunit powered fronts/separately amplified rears" setup is a nightmare, not to mention sounds like crap. My advice:

buy a good set of components, a not-as-good set of co-axials, and a 4ch amp. Run power and rca's to the trunk, and new speaker wire from the trunk to the doors.

Then you will

a) take full advantage of your new headunit

b) be truly without the heinous stock wiring setup

c) position yourself well for future upgrades, such as a subwoofer or better amps/speakers/headunits.

I know it's not a good time to hear this, and I'm sorry for your misfortunes.

Merry Xmas

Default Here ya go...

Here's a shot of the delta wiring diagram:

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/35440/dscf0014.jpg">

And of the PAC box output:

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/35440/dscf0010.jpg">

I basically need to know which of the PAC output wires go with which wires from the first diagram. I am still afraid that the HU is blown (why didn't the fuse in the back of the HU blow?), but really won't know for sure until it's all hooked up. Thanks for your help!
