Default OMG... IM SO STUPID (Drained Trans Accidentally)

I accidentally drained my Automatic trans fluid, thinkin it was my engine oil. Then added 4 quarts to the engine thinking it was empty... Then drove it around the blockwith 4 quarts too many in the engine, and no oil in the transmission! All I saw was SMOKE!!! And everytime I hit the gass it would rev up and go nowhere. Haha time to take her in. Can you say Cha Ching Audi mechanics?? -Syn

Default wowwww... that's, um... sheesh, i'm at a loss for words.

what year/model is your car? and if you had done the oil change correctly, you woulda checked the dipstick before taking it for a spin. that woulda told you that you were 4 quarts over. "wow" is all i can say.

Default Good try, but a few points:

1) I don't think there is a transmission drain plug. You'd have to remove the whole pan to drain it.
2) Did you not change the oil filter? If you did, it would drain your oil as well.
3) Can you even fit 4 extra quarts without overflowing?

Default Try putting fluid back in the trans (PITA I think) and see what happens.

And drain the engine oil and start over with the proper fill requirement.

Don't feel too bad...you're not the first that's done this. You might be the first that's driven it this way though. :-/ Okay, feel a little bad.

Default actually it nearly happened to me

Until I realized it and only drained about half a cup. Its a royal pain to actually access the tran plug but I was stupid. Dealer refilled up without a hitch.

4Rings, I did change the oil filter after batteling with it for an hour. (stock one is on so frickin tight) A lil oil cam out but i found my Actual drain plug for the engine and sure enuf 8 quarts came out. And yes there is a Hex head bolt to drain the trans that i thought was for the engine. oops! And whats Flat bed Yippers?
