I was looking into this mod myself. Is the main reason for the intercooler? Are both sides needed for the A4? I figured that since the S4 is twins that maybe only the drivers side was truly needed for the A4. (Given my 4-day old knowledge of the car, it looks like that is the intercooler that sits in front of the drivers front wheel well?)

it's a fender liner. sits inside the wheel well. it has vents to release hot...
air from around the intercooler. i did mine about a month ago. took about 10 mintues total time. it's cake. do it!

actually, it does nothing to relieve hot air around your turbo...
i guess it might do that a bit should you replace the passenger side liner, but the main purpose is to help cool the air around the intercooler.

s4 fender liner...lines passenger side...doesnt do much, just allows more air to come in the engine.
right below the turbo...which will add some cooling effect i believe.
