PAN-CX-DP610 ( medium)
I have a 98.5 1.8TQ with the concert stereo system. I want to add the aftermarket CD Changer. Am I correct in saying it is the Panasonic CX-DP610 unit I need? I want random play function, does it have it? Also I found it for $189 on the web but it is $267 on Autotoys.com. Is there anything in particular I need, special cables, adaptors or anything. I've read archivies and FAQ's and I'm still not clear. I want plug and play but $189 sounds really cheap and I suspect there is something else I need. Help,

Belive what you need is...
a "VW/PC-PAN6" protocol adapter made by PIE (Precision Interface Electronics) which allows random (only within selected disc) and direct access. Ballpark $50 + s/h

Have heard conflicting reports...
...about the Crutchfield adapter. It's just a patch cord; PIE says that unless you use a protocol adapter you'll just get the basics (no random, etc.).

I have the Panasonic Changer...my thoughts
I bought the adapter and changer from Crutchfield. It works! There is no random function! I received a bad changer because it skips everytime I go over a small bump. (I had professionals look at it). Crutchfield is sending me a new one no questions asked. It is on back order because it is very popular. Hopefully the new changer will be a good one...
Is there an adapter that allows the random feature?

Autotoys.com...
Their type III compatible unit comes with an adapter that does let the head unit random function work. It may be available from them separately though I dont see it separately listed. The on that came with mine was labeled Blitzsafe AUDIPANDMXV1
