play in the tranny (long)
so I used to have a 1.8T. My brother ended up taking it. When I sold it to him, the tranny had major damage to the teeth in first gear and would make a horrible sound. I have also chipped the car. My brother put a new tranny in and it all seems to be going all good and well until he drives it back from a highway trip comming home. It sounds like when the teeth were chipped, but not nearly as bad. It happens throught every gear. Most noticible around 2500rpm and accelerating. The noise increased in speed as the faster you go. When you are in the higher rpm you cannot hear it because the engine is louder. We took it to the audi dealership and they told us that their is play in the tranny and they cannot tell anymore unless they take the tranny out. Worst part about taking it to audi is they charged us 90 cdn to tell us their is play in the tranny but i don't wanna get started on that. What I wanna know is will it be fine to drive back to were my brother lives. He lives in Vancouver and I live in Calgary. It is about a 10 hour drive. Also why does the tranny keep f---ing up. Is it because of the chip? Is the stock tranny not strong enough for the chip?

Sounds like your brother isn't doing a good job of shifting and is grinding gears.
I bet the synchros are F'd up.
The tranny is plenty capable of handling that power and a whole bunch more. Unless of course it is being abused due to driver error, which is what my best guess is.
