Please help....boost leak? (longish)
Hi,
I have been having problems with what I think is a boost leak. Here is the story:
About a year ago I started developing surging problems, I was running the GIAC v.1 software for my 2000 A4 1.8t avant, a DV, exhaust, and intake. I replaced the DV with the Bailey's, and it still surged, so I tried the valve from the TT, it still surged. So I serviced the Forge valve I had originally, re-insalled it and left that alone. Then I had all the piping and hoses checked....nothing. So I drove around with the car bucking and surging like a friggin rodeo freak. Then, I found a forum prescribing the ECS N75 valve as a solution, so I bought it, installed it and it totally worked. All surging fixed.
Then, about a month ago, the flange on my exhaust kit broke, so I took it to the shop that installed it. they welded it back together and it was fixed. They also mentioned that they could uprgade my software to the new GIAC v.3 for free. they did and everything was fixed. So I jump on the highway, and gun it.....1st gear perfect, second gear, perfect, third gear, perfect, fourth gear, perfect, fifth gear.....pppssssstttt....all power gone, total limp mode.... no boost at all.
What was weird was that there was no surging, nothing indicating a problem, nothing...it was just like something popped. I pull over, turn the car off look around, couldn't see anything. So I turn the car on....problem still there. I drive it for a little and am able to get the booost to come back....
The car runs perfectly, it is just that under wide open throttle, in the higher gears (usually 4 and 5) sometimes the car goes limp. Does anyone have any ides what it could be? Could the upgrade in software possibly have ruptured a hose or vacum line or something??? Please help me! This is becoming very frustrating...ohhh...one other thing I am going to install an AWE center vent boost gauge tonight....

Sounds like the wrong software...
Seems like you are overboosting...thus going into limp mode...ask them to go back to the older software and see what happens...
If you can make boost in most occasions then your vac system should be ok...

Don't know if this applies to 1.8T's as well, but folks have posted that ECS's N75 valve doesn't...
...work well in a chipped car. Perhaps go back to your stock N75 valve with the new GIAC software and see what happens.

I used to run the PO8 version with my K03, it was great...no issues...stock N75 as well...maybe that
the N75 your issue ?
I'd say go back to the P08 version as it was a great software version...and also put on a stock N75...

never messed with any valves, just a new BPV, exhaust, suspension, wheels, UUC SS......
until I went Stage III
Like Andy says, it maybe that N75 valve.
My car did alot of Track & Auto-X'ing when GIAC'd (read: Lots of WOT, no stutter or pinging etc) and that was on the PO8.
Hope it all works out!

Re: I used to run the PO8 version with my K03,
I am pretty sure the N75 is bad (stock) at least. It used to surge very bad......got the new one and it totally smoothed it out. I may buy a new stock one, slap it on and see if that fixes it.......I hope it is that simple....

I just bought a stock N75
...should get it within a week. I also just installed an omori boost gauge (the one from AWE). I made the boost go away again, and the gauge stayed right around 3-5 PSI when I floored it. Vacum seems to be there, I really hope this is sypmtomatic of the N75.....
