Default question: BOV; what kind of damages would one expect?

what short term and long term problems/damages would appear? how many miles until signs? estimate costs$$$?

once BOV, can u go back to BPV to prevent problems/ before damage?

thanx

Default ok, i'll bite...

it is generally recommended to stay BPV, because a BOV will generally cause your mixture to run rich, since some intake air is vented to the atmosphere, instead of back into the intake like the BPV does. Rich conditions generally means poor gas mileage, moderate grey/black smoke at times, and hastening the death of your cat (converter, not that lame house-pet). And you'll prolly foul your plugs quicker, fry your O2 sensors, and might even get a check-engine light. Other than that, go for it. Its your car.

Default so then...

thanks.

seems like most costly damage would be the converter huh! (besides spendin extra on gas!)

how can i tell if it has affected the cat?

O2 sensors arent expensive, right?! and for that, check-engine light would appear, right?!

Default sheesh, you must want a BOV pretty bad....

its like you're convincing yourself, and weighing the damage. Most here would rather not damage their car. BUT, since you asked- you can figure around $300 for a cat, prolly every 8 months or so, and about $150 for an O2 sensor (you have 2 of them), and probably about the same timeframe. Maybe they'll let you buy in bulk...

Default Been running a BOV for 13k miles now...

And have yet to have a CEL thrown. Mileage is no different than with a BPV (GFB)- maybe a few miles +/- per tank which is also dependant on how I've been driving, idle is the same, and no black puffs. Boost feels better with the BOV- More responsive and comes on sooner and smoother than with my GFB (or with the old Porsche Bosch valve I had in the car for that matter). Personally I like my BOV better- Just my personal opinion. If the GFB worked as well for me, I'd be running that instead of letting it collect dust on my shelf.
