Default quick wheel question regarding weights...

Hey guys,

Just had a bent wheel supposedly repaired by a reputable wheel-repair place here in the SF Bay Area. I had it mounted and balanced (at a different wheel / tire place) yesterday and had a question regarding "normal usage" of weights.

They used 9 weights on the wheel, I think they're 7g each? Anyway, it seemed excessive to me, given my other wheels have 2-4 weights on them. Would this suggest that the wheel is still bent? Or is using this amount of weight not abnormal?

If I was smart I would've watched them spin the wheel on the machine, but I wasn't around to see it.

thoughts? TIA.

Andrew

Default yes that is excessive - perhaps the tire is damaged too.

some times a place will rotate the tire 180° and then re balance it eliminate the amount of weights.
Post this over in the wheel section too.

Default were the tires new? even 1oz o weights is a lot....

when you mount tires there are marks put on the tires that are supposed to be lined up with the valve stem. i've had a tire come with over 28 gr. that when turned to the right spot dropped to 7gr. if the tires were used and all the weights are grouped. then mark that spot on the tire and align it with the valve stem.
