radio code

I've been reading several posts and I'm not sure what to expect from my radio. The on/off switch is not working, so I'm going to pull the thing and see if I can't fix the switch contacts. When I do this, will it ask for a code when I reinstall it? I do not have the code, as I bought it used. Previous owner does not know the code either. Of course I don't want to pay the stealer to look it up. Options?

only way to find out is to try it. i never get asked on my 00 for a code

might be smart anti-theft

found a website that claims the Audi Symphony is "smart" anti-theft, meaning that if it is removed and reinstalled in the same vehicle, it does not ask for a code. Must be linked in with the instrument cluster somehow. Will post my results once I get the darn thing out.

chickened out

I'm trying to diagnose why the power button doesn't work on the thing. Once I got it loose, I left all the connectors on the back of it plugged in and just removed the radio's face. I know, you are never supposed to work on electronics with the power applied, but seeing as I am an EE I get to make up the rules...

Checked out the button, seems like it's working (0 ohms when closed, infinite when open). Radio still refuses to turn off. This is a mystery. Am I missing something?
